This candle is safe for indoor and outdoor use. Many synthetic insect repellents contain a chemical called DEET. DEET (chemical name, N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide) is the active ingredient in many repellent products, widely used to repel bugs such as mosquitoes and ticks. Rather than killing biting bugs, DEET works by masking our natural scent, making it hard for them to smell us.

Erring on the side of caution, we decided to go DEET-free when making our insect repellent, opting instead for a 100% natural alternative that is extremely safe and effective.

Yes! Soybean oil in particular has shown in two CDC studies to be as effective as 25% DEET in testing. The geranium oil specifically repels ticks, while the castor and soybean oils are scientifically proven to work against a variety of bugs, including mosquitoes, fleas, flies, and gnats. This product has been tested in a number of rural, tropical, and urban environments across the US and the world and has proven to be extremely effective.
